SUMMER SEVENS 2010
7s PRACTICE WILL START MONDAY, MAY 31, 2010 (Memorial Day). Try-outs for NOVA 1 and 2 will be held on Wednesday, June 2.
Practices is on Mondays and Wednesdays at TC Williams High School starting at 7pm. If you plan on playing in the tournaments- please make every effort to attend the Wednesday night practices.
Team Meeting -- Save the Date!
We will be having an optional team meeting after practice (9:30-ish) on Tuesday, May 18th to discuss the schedule, logistics, and any questions/concerns you may have. Please let me know if you have items you'd like to include on the agenda.
Questions about NOVA's 7s Program
1.Q: Why are their try-out for the first and second sides?
A: The sides are only set for the tourneys that we want use as “qualifiers” We could split sides for some tournaments if we wanted. Also, we can rearrange the sides at the end of the season for the MARFU Championship and for Club Nationals.
2. Q: Who's the coach?
A: Toshi Palamo. Toshi played on the USA Men's National Team for 7 years and has a lot of ideas about how to improve our rugby. We're in the process of looking for a dedicated NOVA 2 7s coach. Let Lauren know if you know anyone interested!
3. Q: What happens at practice?
A: Practices are on Mondays and Wednesdays. Wednesday practices are led by the coaches, while Monday practices are touch scrimmages and skills practices led by the captains and/or guest coaches. Ideally, on Mondays more experienced players would match up with more developmental players to teach a specific skill or theory.
4. Q: I'm not sure if I'm ready for 7s?
A: EVERYONE IS WELCOME at 7s PRACTICES! Even if you're just using it for fitness or to develop skills for 15s. We will continue to enter several sides at each tournament, including competitive sides and social sides, and everyone will get loads of playing time this summer.
Any additional questions - please email 7s Coordinator, Lauren Hoeck.

Other Details
- COSTS:
Participation in 7s is self-funded. With ten players, you can expect to pay between $12.50 and $20 to cover your portion of the entry fee on a given weekend.
- CLEATS:
If you don't already have light, molded-sole soccer cleats, it's time to get some. If you do have those, you may want to try turf shoes, too. Large studs don't give good traction on the rock-hard summer fields (keep in mind that if it rains, turf shoes will cause you to slide).
- SOCKS:
Basic short, white socks are recommended (we think scrapes on your legs are preferable to covering up more skin in the heat).
- SHORTS:
This summer we're going with WHITE and BLACK rugby shorts. Uniforms will vary on selections. Jerseys for games are provided.
Inclement Weather
Always check your email and the hotline (703-715-6888) for the latest changes/updates to match and practice locations/times, especially if conditions are or have been wet.
NOVA 7s Policy
In order to develop a comprehensive NOVA Nation, we have adopted the following policy regarding players eligible to participate in the NOVA summer 7s program:
If you live in the DC/VA/MD area and are going to play in the 15s club Matrix season following your summer with NOVA, then the expectation is that you will be playing for NOVA. If you are returning to your college club, are not playing 15s, or are moving away from the area after the summer, this does not apply.
If you have questions about how this policy applies to you, please email the NOVA 7s Coordinator, Lauren Hoeck, at laurenhoeck@gmail.com.
